I often find articles that I’d love to read but never seem to find time to read them (my massive unread count in NetNewsWire and Pocket are evidence of that), and it looks like SoundGecko could be a solution to this problem.
I’ve only just started testing the service so will have to report back later if it’s any good, but so far the service seems to offer everything I need. It lets you email article URLs to their email address, which they then convert using a text-to-speach engine to an MP3 that you can list to on the go. MP3s are added to a playlist which can be played in their iPhone app, but my favourite feature is that the playlist can be subscribed to as a podcast which allows me to listen to all my saved articles in my favourite podcast app. You can also subscribe to RSS feeds so that all articles are automatically converted. This could be a useful way to tackle my ever increasing unread count in NetNewsWire.
There are three price plans, that range from free to $7.95 per month. Paying more increases your monthly article limit, article word limit and RSS subscription limit, but I’m going to start by testing it on the Free plan. This gives me 30 articles per month, 1 RSS subscription and a 4,000 article word limit.
